Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 b9aaaa9d8c Answer server.address() with the socket path for Unix-socket servers
Node answers a Unix-socket server's address() with its path. Programs
that call listen() with a string argument now get a Unix-aware
address(): typed `string | AddressInfo | null` (the @types/node
declaration), it answers the path; typed as the AddressInfo record alone,
which cannot hold the path, it throws for such a server, as does the
composed address().port read. Every other program keeps the record-only
lowering, so their output is unchanged.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 447e9bf000 Compile Transform option callbacks and loosely typed child-process listeners
@types/node types the transform/flush completion callback's data as any
and a child stream 'data' chunk as any, and ChildProcess accepts
(code: number, signal: string) exit and close listeners through its
catch-all overload. None of these compiled: the any-typed completion
callback crashed the LLVM emitter, and the child listeners were refused.

The completion callback's data parameter is typed Buffer | string |
undefined while the option callback lowers. Child stream 'data' listeners
with an unknown or any chunk box it as a checked-dynamic value, taking
strings when a setEncoding statement on the same stream precedes the
listener and Buffers when the function never calls setEncoding on it;
other placements are refused. Exit and close listener parameters declared
number or string bind as checked-dynamic values, so the body sees the
null Node passes.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 835f6baed8 Refuse untyped promisify originals with own properties
Node's promisify copies the original's own property descriptors and
prototype onto the wrapper and consults util.promisify.custom. The
runtime wrapper now copies name and length and refuses, with SC2020 where
util.promisify runs, an original with any other own property, instead of
returning a wrapper that lacks them. The node24-util-adapters npm case
now gets past its promisify scenarios and stops at an unrelated deferred
Object.create refusal; its known state records that.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 cb26c95f61 Read http.request options at run time, speak HTTP over Unix sockets, and fill the boot path's net and fetch gaps
http.request, https.request and get now accept options the compiler
cannot see as an object literal: a RequestOptions variable, a literal
that spreads one, or a literal that sets socketPath. The runtime reads
the record in the ClientRequest constructor's order with Node's errors;
documented options it does not implement throw the runtime fence when
they carry a value. https adds rejectUnauthorized, ca and servername.

socketPath dials a Unix domain socket in the net unit; the agent keys
its sockets by the path as Node's getName does, and the Host header
defaults to localhost. server.listen(path[, cb]) binds a Unix socket and
removes the socket file when the server closes; a numeric string is
still a port. Errors name the path ("connect ENOENT /path", "listen
EADDRINUSE: address already in use /path"). Windows reports ENOTSUP.

A TypeScript object literal with no contextual type that spreads a
checked-dynamic value maps to the checked dynamic, so
`const options = { ...location, path, timeout }` compiles.

A socket's 'lookup' event reaches its listeners with (err, address,
family, host) for each address a host name resolves to, or once with
the lookup error, before 'connect'. Only programs that listen for
'lookup' install the lookup records; elsewhere the hook sites are a NULL
check.

server.close((err) => ...) runs the callback with undefined at 'close',
or with ERR_SERVER_NOT_RUNNING when the server was not listening; a
server that never listened now emits 'close'. IncomingMessage 'data'
listeners may take string chunks after setEncoding, and res.end()
accepts a string-or-undefined chunk.

fetch's BodyInit and HeadersInit unions, as RequestInit-derived option
types spell them under @types/node, map to the checked dynamic, and a
URLSearchParams body is sent form-encoded, as by Node.

child.stdout.pipe(), stream events and writes beyond write(string) on a
NodeJS stream interface slot, and pipes into a child's stdin now lower
the program with the general representation instead of fencing. The
fallback ChildStdin is a NodeJS.WritableStream, and the coverage
remainder relowers its unreached code the same way.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 1fb1d9c829 Let constructor functions inherit from EventEmitter and the stream classes
Bundled npm code (glob, yazl, from2, multistream) subclasses Node's
classes with constructor functions: util.inherits(Ctor, EventEmitter) and
EventEmitter.call(this). util.inherits received an identity token and
threw ERR_INVALID_ARG_TYPE, EventEmitter.call(this) and
EventEmitter.prototype were refused, and `this instanceof Ctor` against
a function was refused.

A new runtime unit (scr_dyn_builtin_class.c, linked by the new
dynBuiltinClass feature) provides EventEmitter, the legacy Stream and
the stream classes as untyped constructor functions with Node's
prototype chain. EventEmitter's prototype ports lib/events.js over the
object's own _events, _eventsCount and _maxListeners properties; Stream
adds the legacy pipe. util.inherits, Base.call/apply(this, ...),
Base.prototype, instanceof on untyped values and JavaScript value reads
of these classes use them. Constructing over a stream class throws
SC2020 where it runs. instanceof against a compiled constructor function
compares its prototype with the value's prototype chain.

Main replaced the runtime-feature scan with a rule table, the executable
unit list with a unit table and the module emission with emit-module.ts:
perfLoop becomes a rule (perf.idleTime, perf.loop*, perf.eld*), a unit
(scr_perf_loop.c) and emit-module's loop-start mark (readsLoopMetrics is
now public). The feature lists take both perfLoop and main's webcrypto.
This branch's lower-exprs.ts hunks move to expressions/property-access.ts
(histogram readings), expressions/binary.ts (`??` with a function
default) and expressions/relational.ts (`in` over class members); the
caughtRead fallback stays in lower-exprs.ts.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 78f713e572 Implement fs-extra 8-11 as a built-in package
fs-extra builds its exports at load time (computed keys over graceful-fs,
universalify wrappers), which the static CommonJS model cannot follow, so
programs reading its members through the default import failed. The
package-shim registry now maps fs-extra 8.x-11.x to a TypeScript
implementation over node:fs: fs's members re-exported, the wrapped methods
following universalify's callback-or-promise rule over fs.promises, and
the extras (copy, move, remove, emptyDir, mkdirs, ensureFile, pathExists,
outputFile, the JSON helpers and their aliases) with fs-extra's messages.
Its declarations stand in for @types/fs-extra, including the default
import, and a namespace import resolves to the shim. What it does not
implement is not declared, so using it is a type error.

A typed rest-parameter function passed where a function with fixed parameters is expected (`log(...m: string[])` into `(m: string) => void`) was refused. The function adapter now packs the slot's remaining arguments into the rest array, and the value check admits the function wherever that adapter fits. A nested function declaration with a typed rest parameter becomes a value with its own typed-rest signature, converted at each use.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 f80e4c1a09 Compile polyfill packages that are Node builtins as the builtins
isarray, safe-buffer, process-nextick-args, inherits and util-deprecate
evaluate to a Node builtin on Node 24 at their checked major versions, so
a require of one compiles as that builtin expression at the require's
position: from an opted-in package's files (the installed version where
Node's resolution finds it), from the program's own CommonJS files, and
through an esbuild __commonJS chunk whose pnpm path key names the package
and its version. The package's files never join the program.

readable-stream 2.x and 4.x compile as node:stream, the package's own
READABLE_STREAM=disable behavior (a documented divergence). A use of the
entry's export picks the builtin module (member reads of the carried
classes) or stream.Readable (value uses); a mixture keeps the package.
3.x stays as is: its disable branch throws on Node 24.

Chris Tate 3ae4172f4d Keep thrown arrays' identity and inspect thrown values in test failures
A thrown array reached its catch binding as a type-erased native array:
`console.log(e)` printed `{}` where Node prints the array, `String(e)`
gave "[object Object]", `Array.isArray(e)` was false and a typed view
such as `(e as number[]).length` threw a TypeError. Thrown records
already crossed the catch boundary as checked-dynamic values that keep
their identity; arrays, and unions over records and arrays, now take the
same conversion, so the catch binding is the thrown object.

node:test printed a failing test's thrown non-Error value with String():
`throw { code: 42 }` reported `[object Object]` where Node prints the
value as util.inspect renders it. The failing-tests section now inspects
thrown numbers, booleans and checked-dynamic values (records, arrays,
null and undefined); a thrown string is quoted as before. A thrown class
instance that is not an Error still prints `[object Object]` (the
limitations page says so).

Adds corpus 6341, extends the thrown-values node:test fixture, and
records 6341's cost.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 c17eec0261 Compile event-loop metrics, predicate-narrowed catch bindings and other wrapper-reachable gaps
Once generic wrappers compile (#1413), the code behind them is reachable.
This closes the general gaps found there:

- performance.eventLoopUtilization() and monitorEventLoopDelay()'s
IntervalHistogram (enable, disable, reset, percentile and the min, max,
mean, stddev, count and exceeds readings), under the fallback
declarations and @types/node. A new runtime unit, scr_perf_loop.c, links
only for programs that read them (the perfLoop feature): an unref'd
sampling interval records into HdrHistogram-shaped buckets, and
utilization measures active time as the main thread's CPU time since
  the loop started.
- Catch bindings narrowed by a user type predicate or an assertion read
their members through the checked-dynamic value.
- `??` with a function default of a different signature takes the
optional callback's own function type and adapts the default.
- Optional calls on interface-typed receivers dispatch like the plain
  protocol call.
- `any` parameters of function declarations and spelled function types
are checked-dynamic slots, and a generic instantiated at `any` takes
  `unknown` there.
- `'key' in err` on Error receivers answers from the declaring subclasses.
- Object.entries over a generic record resolves
  `keyof T extends never ? unknown : T[keyof T]` through the binding.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 d9d3dc2517 Keep __dirname and __filename in TypeScript files that load as ES modules
A .ts or .tsx file with import syntax is an ES module under Node's strip-types rule, which has no __dirname or __filename. TypeScript projects are commonly shipped as CommonJS bundles where both exist, and @types/node declares them for every file. scriptc now compiles them in such files to the module's source path, the same compile-time constants as in CommonJS and the same strings as import.meta.dirname and import.meta.filename. JavaScript ES modules keep the fence. The limitations page documents the difference.

Chris Tate 53af3dc930 Compare strings in UTF-16 code-unit order
Relational string operators (`<`, `<=`, `>`, `>=`) compared the UTF-8
bytes, which is code-point order. Node compares UTF-16 code units, so the
results differed for characters above U+FFFF against U+E000..U+FFFF and
for lone surrogates against surrogate pairs. The default `sort()`
comparator, `util.inspect` with `sorted: true` and dynamic comparisons
already used UTF-16 order; the default comparator of a dynamic array's
`sort()` did not.

Typed comparisons and the dynamic array sort now use `scr_str_cmp_u16`,
and the IR's `strCmp` node no longer has a `utf16` flag. The two orders
agree unless both of the first differing bytes are at least 0xED, so:

- the inline wrapper decides differing first words, or last words of
equal lengths up to 16 bytes, in byte order when neither word has a
byte of at least 0xED (a SWAR test). Other differing words, and the
first bytes of shorter strings, decide by their first differing byte:
in byte order when one of the two is below 0xED, and by plane when both
are lead bytes from 0xEE to 0xF4 (a supplementary character orders
  below U+E000..U+FFFF);
- otherwise a proven-ASCII string on either side compares with `memcmp`
(`scr_str_cmp`), and other pairs call `scr_str_cmp_u16_bytes`. It finds
the first differing byte with words up to byte 32, then with 32-byte
SSE2 or NEON blocks where the target has them. The call is marked as
only reading its arguments, so repeated comparisons of one pair merge.
- `scr_str_cmp_u16` itself takes the same `memcmp` path for proven-ASCII
  strings.

The native compiler sorts record fields with `<` and checks the order
with `sort()`, so it reported SC9001 for 5888-inspect-sorted.ts, whose
object has the keys "\u{1F600}" and "\uffff". 5888 runs in the
native-frontend self-host check. Adds corpus 6023.

Chris Tate 0e02fc28ca Accept mock.fn() without an original
node:test changes, matching Node 24.22:

- mock.fn() and t.mock.fn() without an original return undefined and
record the arguments of each call, whatever the callers pass. The
original and the initial implementation are a function that returns
undefined, so restore() brings that function back.
- mock.fn<F>() with an explicit function type records F's parameters
when F's return type is void or includes undefined. A return type
  without undefined, such as mock.fn<() => number>(), throws SC2020.

mock.fn()'s default type, (...args: any[]) => undefined, maps to the
checked-dynamic rest ABI used for program-declared (...args: unknown[])
functions: the calls log records the argument array, and the mock's
wrapper spreads it into the implementation.

A function whose fixed parameters are all unknown or any, or that has
none, now converts to a checked-dynamic rest signature without fixed
parameters, such as (...args: unknown[]) => void: each call passes the
arguments in order, undefined for the ones the caller left out. This is
how () => {} reaches mockImplementation and mockImplementationOnce, and
it applies to any such slot in TypeScript programs, which threw SC1090
before.

The mock-fn-default fixture and corpus program 5816 compare with Node,
plain and with SCRIPTC_SAN=1.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 cfb50d16e2 Specialize variadic generic wrappers to the wrapped function's signature
Higher-order wrappers over `(...args: any) => any` that forward `arguments`
with `fn.apply(this, arguments)` and type their options with
`Parameters<F>` / `ReturnType<F>`, and their rest-tuple rewrite, did not
compile. Generic calls already monomorphize per call site; these pieces now
resolve to that site's concrete signature:

- Rest parameters typed as fixed tuples (`...args: [A, B]`, `...args: A`
bound to a tuple, `...args: Parameters<F>`) flatten to positional
  parameters, so `(...args: [A, B]) => R` and `(a: A, b: B) => R` share one
function type. Trailing optional positions become `T | undefined` slots.
- `Parameters<F>`, `ReturnType<F>`, `Awaited<ReturnType<F>>` and the
  `ReturnType<F> extends PromiseLike<infer U> ? U : …` spelling resolve
  through F's binding.
- A parameterless function expression reading `arguments` lowers against
  the fixed signature its value is asserted to (or contextually typed as);
  `arguments` is that signature's tuple.
- `f.apply(thisArg, args)` and `f(...args)` over a forwarded tuple call
directly, passing `thisArg` as the receiver. A tuple that is only
  forwarded is never allocated.
- `fn.name` on a function parameter folds to the call site's static name;
  the instantiation key carries it.

Also: optional callback fields narrowed at the call (`o.cb ? o.cb(x) : …`)
compile, effect-free surplus arguments to fixed-arity function values are
dropped, and `arguments.length` no longer counts a `this` parameter.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 6e68a811f1 WebAssembly W5: the Memory, Table and Global constructors, Module.imports/exports/customSections, and function references from tables
new WebAssembly.Memory, Table and Global construct the runtime objects an
instance exports, with Node 24's descriptor order, defaults, conversions
and messages (V8's EnforceUint32 errors, the v128 and shared-memory
errors; a valid shared memory is refused with a TypeError until threads),
so either kind can be imported. Imports of memories, tables and globals
now check limits, types and mutability with V8's LinkError messages, and
exports keep V8's identity (imported objects re-export as themselves, one
object per memory and table). The classes called without new throw Node's
TypeError.

WebAssembly.Module.imports, exports and customSections read the
descriptor (ABI v2). Custom sections are carried only by programs that
call customSections. Every function a module references reaches
JavaScript as a callable function: the translator emits one call thunk
per signature, so table.get and funcref globals return the module's
unexported functions too, and exported functions can be stored in tables
and globals from any instance. Discovery also finds .so WebAssembly
shared libraries at resolved paths.

Fixes to W3/W4 found on the way: externref Table.grow fills with
undefined; Memory.grow/Table index errors and funcref messages match V8;
an invalid funcref global import is a LinkError; global.valueOf() on a
WebAssembly.Global-typed receiver answers the value; explicit-bounds
memories keep the blocks grow replaced, so old ArrayBuffers never
dangle.

This unblocks quickjs-wasi's extension loader: quickjs-wasi with its url,
encoding, headers and structured-clone extensions runs through its own
glue identically to Node, and pi codemode's static coverage goes from 83%
to 84% with no WebAssembly blocker left.

Evidence: differential corpus programs for the API (webassembly-jsapi),
a 261-test port of WPT wasm/jsapi (webassembly-wpt-jsapi), quickjs-wasi's
dist/extensions.js run unmodified against dylink-shaped modules
(webassembly-dylink), and the 2.0 spec suite's modules that import the
spectest memory and table (new webassembly-spec-imports group plus the
memory and table groups); all match Node in the plain and sanitized
lanes. The zero-cost gate leaves every non-WebAssembly program
byte-identical.

Chris Tate a57089aebf Accept readline's dispose, instanceof, dynamic streams and non-string prompts
rl[Symbol.dispose]() closes the interface, as Node's dispose method
calls close(). rl instanceof readline.Interface and
readlinePromises.Interface answer which module created the interface:
rl.create's mode marks readline/promises interfaces, and the fallback
declarations declare both Interface classes as values.

In JavaScript, createInterface's input and output can be checked-dynamic
values (a function's result, an object's member, an element that may be
undefined): rl.inputFromDyn and rl.outputFromDyn unbox the stream they
hold, an output of null or undefined means no output, and other values
are refused.

In JavaScript, question() and setPrompt() accept a value that is not a
string. When such a prompt is written, an interface that is not a
terminal throws ERR_INVALID_ARG_TYPE as Node's kWriteToOutput does, and
the readline/promises question rejects with it; the question stays

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 60e0b246e7 Choose record key order from the orders values are built in
Each record shape's enumeration table now follows the key order its object
literals, spreads, rest bindings and record copies create, and appends
optional keys assigned after construction. Shapes whose values are built
in more than one order keep their declaration order and SC6002.

Malte UblandClaude Opus 5.5 78184a9869 WebAssembly W3–W4: translate modules to native code at build time, the JavaScript API over them, and Module transfer to workers
A build now translates every WebAssembly module whose bytes it can see
(W2's discovery) into LLVM IR with a TypeScript translator
(packages/compiler/src/wasm/module.ts, translate.ts) and appends it to the
program module, so the existing LLVM helper optimizes, partitions and
caches it with the program. The program also emits scr_wasm_registry, a
portable table of module descriptors (scr_wasm_abi.h). At run time,
WebAssembly.compile, instantiate, validate, new Module and new Instance
find the translated module by the SHA-256 of its bytes; bytes the build did
not see reject with a CompileError. There is no interpreter and no JIT.

The runtime (scr_wasm.c, link-gated by the new `wasm` feature, handle tags
inside W0's headroom) implements the JavaScript API once, over
descriptors, with Node's semantics and messages: exports (functions,
memories, tables, globals), imports (functions, immutable globals, and
memories, tables and globals other instances export), every trap as
WebAssembly.RuntimeError, the CompileError, LinkError and RuntimeError
classes, compile and instantiate settling on a later turn, and
globalThis.WebAssembly as a value. On 64-bit Linux and macOS, memories sit
in 8 GiB guard reservations and a SIGSEGV/SIGBUS handler turns faults into
traps or stack exhaustion; async fibers get a guard page on first use.
Sanitizer builds and Windows check bounds and the stack explicitly. A
WebAssembly.Module crosses to workers through W0's transfer hook (W4).

W1's refusals become lowerings; the Memory, Table and Global constructors,
Module.imports/exports/customSections and the streaming functions still
refuse with SC2020. The globals: WebAssembly compatibility row moves to
partial.

Evidence: differential corpus programs for the API, TypeScript use and the
codemode worker shape, plus five programs executing about 9,300 commands
of the WebAssembly 2.0 spec suite; all match Node in the plain and
sanitized lanes. quickjs-wasi runs through its own glue, matching Node
(apart from a pre-existing non-wasm fence) and on par with or faster than
V8. The zero-cost gate leaves every non-wasm program byte-identical.

Chris Tate e82686eab7 Add getTestContext to node:test
node:test changes, matching Node 24.22:

- getTestContext() returns the context of the test, suite or hook whose
code is running: undefined at module top level, the root's context in
module-level hooks, the suite's in a suite body and in the suite's
hooks, and the test's in its body. In the afterEach and t.after hooks
of a subtest cancelled by its parent's timeout, it returns each hook's
  owner.
- The context rides the AsyncLocalStorage snapshot under a reserved id,
so it follows a test across its awaits, into the async functions,
promise callbacks, timers and other callbacks it schedules, and into
concurrent subtests, which each see their own.
- The root's fullName is "<root>", as its name is.
- Optional chains over a test context, such as getTestContext()?.name,
  lower.

AsyncLocalStorage enter and restore move into the always-linked async
core so the test runner can use them. The snapshot holds the node's
index in a table of live nodes, so a snapshot that outlives its node
answers undefined.

The get-test-context and get-test-context-cancelled fixtures compare
the contexts seen at each point with Node, plain and with SCRIPTC_SAN=1.
