The diff-scoped clang-tidy run (make lint-tidy-diff) flagged a combined
declaration and a bare pass count on lines of this branch. The other
findings on changed lines follow the file's existing style (statements
without braces, the + 1 allocation idiom) or sit in functions that were
already above the complexity threshold.
